Dr Victoria Barlow

Victoria is Lecturer in Forensic Science at the University of Bedfordshire.

From 2012 to 2016, Victoria was a PhD student at NUCFS where she conducted her research under the supervision of Dr Eleanor Graham. Her project centered on DNA transfer and persistence as well as best practice recovery from the crime scene.

Victoria previously worked for the Forensic Science Service for over five years as both a DNA Analyst in their Intelligence Crimestain Unit and then as an Examiner on the Homicide & Violent team. She has experience in the examination of exhibits submitted from the crime scene for trace evidence and body fluids, specialising in blood, as well as DNA extraction, amplification and sequencing techniques.

Victoria studied her first degree in Genetics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and then went on to complete her MSc in Forensic Science at London South Bank University. Her Master’s project was carried out at the Forensic Science Service where she looked at both validating a kit for profiling canine DNA and the use of Y-STR’s to infer male ethnicity.
