Northumbria University Centre for Forensic Science was established in January 2010 and brings together a wide range of disciplines within forensic science and the social study of science and technology. The Centre’s mission is

“to conduct influential interdisciplinary research on forensic science theory and practice in order to improve its contribution to criminal justice and the safeguarding of human rights”

This is a clear and ambitious mandate to provide independent insight and analysis of policy, practice and ethics in forensic science and medicine.
