ICARIS

ICARIS is research network in human identification which was supported by an EPSRC Network Award from the Technologies for Crime Prevention and Detection Programme. The network’s mission is to act as a nexus in order to foster leading interdisciplinary research in human identification. ICARIS encompasses academics and professionals with an interest in a wide range of fields, including: analytical, psychological, legal, and ethical issues related to human identification.

ICARIS will utilise an open access database to facilitate contact and collaboration between academic, public and private sector partners. It is hoped that this will lead to dissemination of ideas and to new research with an enhanced socio-economic impact dimension. The main aims of the network are to develop a collaborative research nexus that will provide a launch pad for novel interdisciplinary research in human identification, to target cross-disciplinary research at priority areas such as volume crime, high crime areas, secure access points, terrorism and bio terrorism, identity fraud and identity theft and to foster national and international collaboration with academic, public, and private partners.

Objectives

  • To promote a collaborative research network that will provide a launch pad for novel interdisciplinary research in human identification
  • To steer research toward the goals of key partners active in the Criminal Justice System
  • To target cross-disciplinary research at priority areas such as volume crime, high crime areas, secure access points, terrorism and bio terrorism, identity fraud and identity theft
  • To foster national and international collaboration with academic, public, and private partners
  • To promote the transfer of technologies to socially valuable application areas in the Prevention and Detection of Crime
